Voice

Voice lessons at Making Music generally consist of 30 minute lessons for beginner students. You can expect that the first few minutes of each lesson will be focused on proper vocal warm ups and exercises to reinforce an understanding of vocal technique. The remaining portion of the lesson is dedicated to repertoire and sharing what you have practiced with your teacher. We teach from beginner to grade 8 Royal Conservatory and cover most styles of vocal music including popular, classical, musical theatre, folk, rock, etc. Vocal lessons are also available in 45, and 60 minute private lessons as well as 30, 45 and 60 minute semi-private lessons. Voice lessons cover technique, repertoire, sight-singing, ear-training, theory and performance opportunities. Other topics may be covered according to students’ learning goals.

Piano

Piano lessons are taught using a method book for beginners, then generally move to the Royal Conservatory curriculum at level 2A or 2B. The first few minutes of every lesson covers technical aspects of playing and the remainder of the lesson will be devoted to repertoire that has been practiced and new repertoire assignments. Students will always cover new repertoire assignments in their lesson and have notes made in their assignment book so that they know what they are to practice at home. Piano lessons are also available in 45 and 60 minute formats for private lessons. All lessons cover technique, repertoire, ear-training, sight-reading, theory and preparation for performance opportunities. Other topics may be covered according to students’ learning goals.

Guitar

Guitar lessons are taught in 30, 45, and 60 minute long formats. Guitar lessons generally begin with the use of a method book and progress in a format that aligns with the students’ interest. Students often choose to focus on playing by ear, chording, learning to read, using tablature or learning to accompany themselves while singing.

Guitar lessons are also taught in semi-private and group formats. In a semi-private or group format students can learn to play duets or in ensembles. Students are taught technique, ear-training, theory and prepared for performance opportunities. Guitar lessons are taught on electric and acoustic guitar. Amplifiers for electric guitars are supplied at Making Music. Bass guitar is also taught. Our instructor teaches all styles of music from beginner to advanced/professional level.

Music Therapy

Music therapy sessions are anywhere from 30-60 minutes in length and may be recommended for your child for a number of reasons. If you are uncertain whether or not your child could benefit from music therapy please contact us to discuss this option.

Music therapy is the skillful use of music and its elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Music has nonverbal, creative, structural, and emotional qualities. These are used in the therapeutic relationship to facilitate contact, interaction, self-awareness, learning, self-expression, communication, and personal development.
